I have always had a sense of some hidden depth, a resonance of something beyond the surface of existence.
I am fortunate to have met wise, compassionate people throughout my life who have supported, encouraged and inspired me.
In the mid seventies, at the age of 27, I found myself in the depths of a severe personal crisis. I was forced to stop, confront myself, take stock of my life and surrender myself to what I came to recognise as an ongoing inner process of self-discovery, healing and transformation. I came to realise that this was a natural healing process, an irresistible life-long drive towards integration and wholeness. At this time, I found affirmation of my experience in the writings of R D Laing and in the concept of Primal Integration Therapy.
Before long, I became involved in the Human Potential movement, first attending growth workshops at the Churchill Centre in 1978. I then joined an experiential training programme in Primal Integration Therapy with Dr William Swartley through which I received the encouragement and support to explore even more deeply. Later, through friends and colleagues who had known and worked with R D Laing, I learned about existential and phenomenological approaches to therapy. It was at this time too that I became increasingly aware of the spiritual dimension of healing and growth. The practice of mindfulness and meditation became part of my life.
